Buster recycling campaign

A Buster boat is 95% recyclable

Spring 2011 saw the first recycling campaign of Fiskars’ Buster boats. During the campaign, which ran from February to the end of May, Kuusakoski Oy picked up more than 40 old aluminium boats for recycling. The boats were picked up free of charge, and each owner received a purchase benefit for a new boat package. The majority of the boats recycled were Finnish Buster boats and Buster’s predecessors, Kello boats, which were manufactured from the 1950s to the mid-70s. The campaign yielded plenty of positive feedback, and there are plans for a similar campaign in the future.

Aluminium is an excellent recycling material; it can be recycled almost countless times, always yielding raw material that is as good as new. Accordingly, recycled aluminium is an important raw material for Buster boats. 95% of a Buster boat is recyclable, and an estimated 80% of the aluminium in the boats has been recycled. The production of aluminium requires a lot of energy, and the amount of energy saved by using recycled aluminium is about 90%. For recycled steel, the corresponding savings are about 65% compared to new raw material obtained by mining.

Boats of any make are suitable for recycling, provided that they have an aluminium hull and are at least three metres long. Boats with plastic or reinforced plastic components can also be recycled. The engine may be left on the boat and recycled with it if desired.

If you want to recycle your old aluminium boat, please call Kuusakoski Oy’s free-of-charge service number: 0800 30880 (weekdays between 8 am and 5 pm).

When handing over the boat, you need to prove your identity and ownership of the boat. Kuusakoski Oy will pick up your boat anywhere in continental Finland, by a road suitable for heavy vehicles, as agreed. The boat must be in a location from which it can be lifted onto the transport vehicle.
