Service instructions

1. Washing and cleaning
Use sweet water and boat detergent or tall oil soap to wash the interior of your boat (not solvent-based detergent, unless it is intended for cleaning aluminium).

N.B.!
Plastic consoles and other plastic parts (Impax, ABS) must not be washed with solvent-based detergents. The easiest way to remove algae and dirt is to wash the bottom of the boat on the outside immediately after removing the boat from water.

The boat can be cleaned using general detergents intended for boats and cars, with the exception of alcohol-based detergents. By washing the boat regularly, you will avoid stains that are hard to remove later. Wash the bottom of the boat immediately after removing it from the water. Remove fuel and chemical spills immediately from all surfaces of the boat.

N.B.!
Make sure that the cleaning, surface treatment and protective agents you use are suitable for aluminium and other treated surfaces. Follow the instructions provided by the chemical manufacturer.

N.B.!
Fuel, oil, solvent and alcohol stains must be removed from painted surfaces immediately. The hue and gloss of painted surfaces may be affected by strong chemicals.

2. Winter storage and maintenance
Before winter storage, we recommend that you wash your boat in accordance with the instructions above.
If your boat will spend the winter outdoors or in a damp room, remove textiles, tools, anchors and other accessories that may otherwise become mouldy or rusty. Wash the ropes in sweet water.

Electrical instruments can also be protected from oxidation and theft by keeping them dry indoors. Take the battery in a warm, dry place and charge it at least twice during the winter. Spray the connectors of the electrical system with an anti-damp-and-corrosion substance.

Check the condition of the hull.

Cover your boat so that snow will not accumulate inside. However, sufficient ventilation should be ensured.

N.B.!
The cover or the ropes used to fasten it must not directly touch the surface of the boat. If they move, they will rub against the boat. Do not use the boat canopies as winter cover.

Always keep the boat so that the rear is a bit lower and the emptying tubes are open. In this way, the water that may enter the interior of the boat will drain away.

3. Before the launch
Check the functioning of electrical equipment and remove possible oxidation from the connectors of fuses and similar places. Close the emptying plugs (not self-emptying) before the launch. Check the hoses and connectors and fix possible leaks. Bring the security equipment to the boat.

4. Directly on top of the epoxy primer painted on the Buster surface treatment line, anti-fouling paint suitable for aluminium boats can be applied as follows:
* give the bottom of the boat a grease-removing wash
* hone the bottom lightly with matt finish and remove the dust with sweet water
* allow the bottom to dry
* prepare the epoxy primer according to the instructions of the selected anti-fouling paint before spreading the anti-fouling paint
* spread the anti-fouling paint according to the instructions of the manufacturer. N.B.! Using copper-based anti-fouling paint is forbidden.

5. Removing anti-fouling paint from the bottom
The instructions of the paint manufacturer should be followed when removing old anti-fouling paint. Heating cannot be recommended, as it may damage metallic paint close to the waterline.

BUSTER BOATS WITH NO SURFACE FINISHING

1. Washing and cleaning

N.B.!
Plastic consoles and other plastic parts (Impax, ABS) must not be washed with solvent-based detergents. The easiest way to remove algae and dirt is to wash the bottom of the boat on the outside immediately after removing the boat from water.

To remove abrasions, oxidation and sticky dirt, you can use a slightly abrasive polish and machine polishing. However, removing oxidations from aluminium surfaces is not necessary, as aluminium will protect itself from oxidation.

After polishing, the painted and other surfaces should be waxed. The wax will protect the cleaned surface and preserve gloss longer.

4. Anti-fouling paint on the bottom
In marine areas, it pays to use toxic paint on the bottom of the boat. Dirtying of the bottom and especially the screw propeller will increase fuel consumption.

We recommend non-poisonous and non-metallic anti-fouling paints, which are suitable for aluminium without fear of corrosion, or alternatively just a primer undercoating. Nevertheless, if you are using paints with metallic compounds, the instructions of the paint manufacturer must be followed unconditionally and completely. Use a thick enough, waterproof coat of primer on all parts of the bottom below the waterline. The parts of the bottom under the profiles must also be waterproofed with primer.

N.B.!
Do not paint the zinc anodes, the log sensor or the piston rods of the tipper/trim hydraulic cylinders.

5. Removing anti-fouling paint from the bottom
If the paint job has been done on a badly cleaned surface or the paint has been spread directly on to the aluminium surface, pressure washing will remove most of the paint. The rest can be removed mechanically or by hand using an abrasive disc, sandpaper or a stainless steel brush. Finish the cleaning with a careful water wash. Warning: when removing old paint, protect yourself against paint dust and sludge.

N.B.!
Use only accessories intended for aluminium, e.g., aluminium oxide discs that do not give off metal particles corroding aluminium.

The easiest way to clean the areas next to the keel and around the rivets is to use a stainless steel brush. The paint can also be melted with a powerful hot air blower and wiped away with a cloth.

N.B.!
Use heating only locally, not on the entire bottom. Take care that you do not melt the aluminium.
Old paint can also be removed by sandblasting with as fine a sand as possible. Before sandblasting, remove all grease from the surface using, for example, acetone. Be careful when sandblasting the sides of the boat and avoid stretching the aluminium. Finish the cleaning by washing with sweet water.
We do not recommend the use of paint removers when there is even the slightest doubt about their suitability for aluminium.
